Join us this Wednesday for a UCR alumni panel featuring educators. You do not need to be part of the organization to attend – all are welcome!
In partnership, Chicano Latino Alumni, Chicano Student Programs, and Raza Assembly have created Bridging Conexiones, a mentorship program with student leaders. This is a yearlong program designed to provide professional, leadership, and career development opportunities with a cultural lens for UCR Chicano/Latino identified student organizations. Our next event will be in collaboration with Future Teachers of Color featuring a panel of professionals in the education field.
Description: Future Teachers of Color (FTOC) Committed to Racial Justice. FTOC's mission is to bring together and build a community of racial justice-oriented students of Color from UCR who want to pursue teaching in a K-12 or higher education, and other careers in the education field.
Date: Wednesday, February 24, 2021
Time: 8:00-9:00 PM

Esperanza Arce has nearly 20 years of education experience and has been a teacher, instructional coach, English learner coordinator, high school assistant principal, and middle school principal. Currently, she is a district director of secondary education, co-facilitator of a county-level middle school initiative, and co-director of the iSTEAM certification program for the California League of Schools. Esperanza has undergraduate degrees in psychology and Spanish, a single subject credential in Spanish, a master’s degree in education, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership for Educational Justice. Her expertise includes creating systems where all students feel they belong as they prepare for college and career.
Francisco Arce
Frank Arce grew up in the Coachella Valley. As a product of an impoverished, single-mother household, Frank had many obstacles and challenges in life. In his youth, he made poor choices that landed him in alternative/continuation high school. But he had teachers that never gave up on him and inspired him to attend UCR after having dropped out of community college. Frank became involved in positive organizations at UCR and became a Social Studies teacher upon graduating. After having been a teacher and a high school principal, Frank is now an Assistant Superintendent in Human Resources who works to recruit the best positive examples for students, like the teachers that inspired and motivated him.
Anthony Guaracha
For over the past 10 years, I have taught at the community college level throughout Southern California, teaching Sociology and Chicano Studies. My major objective while teaching is to make connections between the students and the content. Beyond teaching, I enjoy volunteering in the community.
Sussan Ortega
I have been in education for the last 14 years; I started as a transitional bilingual teacher and eventually became a Dual Immersion teacher. The last 7 years, I have been a teacher on assignment supporting English Learners and Dual Immersion students. My current position allows me to work at multiple capacities, with district leadership, administrators, parents and teachers on providing professional development, supporting, advocating and implementing programs to meet the needs of bilingual students. I am a passionate educator who sees herself in the students and community she serves.
