*“What It’s Like to be a Park Ranger for the City of San Diego”*
*Presented by: Araceli Dominguez*

Born and raised in the second most populated city in America, Araceli
Dominguez was very fortunate to call Los Angeles her home.  After
graduating from high school, Araceli did not know what she wanted to do
with her life.  After living in a city where the opportunities are endless,
she knew she could do anything, but her only dilemma was “how to get
there”.  Not as uncommon anymore, but Araceli was the first in her family
to attend and graduate from a university.  She received a B.S. in
Environmental Science and Resource Management with an emphasis in Coastal
Marine Systems from CSU, Channel Islands.  The ocean was her backyard and a
place she could never get enough of.  It brings her peace, tranquility, and
hope.  She knew she needed an occupation that was in relation to or
directly worked with the rivers, streams, bodies of water that lead to the
ocean.  Araceli considers herself lucky to have gone through the many
path’s her life has taken her.  She was fortunate to go Whale Watching
almost every week, lived at Yosemite where her window view and sound was
that of Upper and Lower Yosemite Falls and now, she gets to call San Diego
home.
Araceli did not think she would ever be a Park Ranger, but low and behold
that’s where the universe wanted to take her, and she went with that
calling. After seven years of working at the City of San Diego, Araceli is
the first female Senior Park Ranger to oversee a 1200 acre park known as
Balboa Park.  She is very fortunate to have been selected given such an
opportunity and responsibility, that she hopes it shows in her attitude and
smile. During her program she will talk about her responsibilities,
experiences, and interesting findings as a Park Ranger.
