Reminder: Help us win the SEEDS National BioBlitz!

Hey SEEDS at UCR members!

Don't forget to participate in the SEEDS National BioBlitz 2021 hosted by ESA SEEDS. This competition ends on this Thursday, May 13th, and the chapter with the most observations wins – and we plan to win, right everyone?!?

Currently we have 117 observations and 74 species (https://weebly.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f3d85f6e95688eb6979834f4c&id=c62fbe8a59&e=51238ef4b3) . Help us get those numbers up!

Instructions on how to participate are below.

We also wanted to let you all know that several of the SEEDS board members will be presenting a poster about CHRRP, our chapter's research project, at the UCR Undergraduate Research Symposium this Wednesday, May 12, at 1:00pm. We are Track 11A.

If you want more information about this event and how to attend, please go to this website (https://weebly.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f3d85f6e95688eb6979834f4c&id=e1c66a392f&e=51238ef4b3) .
Register to watch the presentation on May 12 at 1:00pm (https://weebly.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f3d85f6e95688eb6979834f4c&id=2a1a922d0e&e=51238ef4b3)
SEEDS National BioBlitz 2021

This BioBlitz is part of the SEEDS National BioBlitz 2021, and it is a competitive event – add as many observations as you can!

A BioBlitz is an event where naturalists of all skill levels go out into nature to collect observations of as many species as possible. Since our BioBlitz is virtual, you can collect observations from any place you wish to explore! To participate, create an account on iNaturalist if you do not already have one.

Then, join the project using the link below. Any observations you upload between May 6th and May 13th will be included in the project.

Amateur and professional naturalists in the iNaturalist community can then identify what you find. We can also identify each other's discoveries!

Tips for Using iNaturalist

• Always include at least one photo in each observation.
• Remember to include the location of the find – this is useful for species identification! (If you use your phone, your photos automatically include the location as metadata)
• You can obscure the location of your find if you wish.
• The iNaturalist software has automated species ID; you can keep this identification if you are not sure what you found.

Feel free to email us with any questions. Have fun, and stay safe while exploring!

Volunteers needed for Data Entry
With help from Dr. Michael Fugate and Center for Conservation Biology graduate students Jared and Annika, we were able to finish sampling baseline species composition. We need students to assist with entering this data so that it can be analyzed.

Grant Application Submitted
We have submitted an application for the Bloom-Hayes Grant, which is awarded by the Sea and Sage Chapter of the Audubon Society. If awarded to us, this grant will assist in funding for CHRRP.

Summary of Project
For those who are interested, the grant proposal outlines the project plan, schedule, budget, and background information. It can be viewed here using the link below. Also, scientific literature that is relevant to the project can be found in the SEEDS Shared Drive.
