Recap of February Meeting & New Provisional SEEDS Officers
Hello fellow SEEDS members,

On February 12th, we had our first meeting of the quarter where we talked about our plans for the future of SEEDS. During that meeting, we created provisional roles for our President (Rhea Amatya), Vice President (Advyth Ramachandran), Treasurer (Caryn Iwanaga), and Outreach Coordinator (Thuy-Tien Bui).

As we reactivate SEEDS at UCR as a student organization, we are in the process of updating our Club Constitution. Upcoming BioBlitz
Every quarter, we will hold a 48-hour BioBlitz where students collect species observations from any location! We propose that this is held from Thursday at noon to Saturday at noon in Week 9 of each quarter, but let us know if you prefer different timing.

Upcoming Opportunities in Ecology
As previously mentioned in prior emails, the Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology at UCR is hosting their annual EcoSlam on April 22nd. If you are interested in giving a quick (5 minute) presentation about past research, please send us an email at theseedsucr at gmail.com so we can help you get in contact with those involved. This is a great low-stress opportunity to practice talking about research, and allows you to add something to your CV/resume.

Additionally, abstracts for poster presentations at the Ecological Society of America’s (ESA) Vital Connections in Ecology 2021 Conference are due on February 25th, at 2:00 PM PST. Late breaking poster abstracts are due April 29th. The meeting is hosted from August 1-6, 2021 in Long Beach, CA. They are currently looking at a hybrid meeting if possible, where all presenters can present remotely.
