Dear Graduate Students,

Hope this email finds you well. The ESA SEEDS UCR Chapter is seeking
graduate student mentors who are interested in supporting undergraduate
students in ecology, environmental science, conservation, and related
fields. It's different from the SEEDS-CCB mentorship program at the UCR.
Dr. Kurt Anderson, Vice Chair Professor, Dept.of EEOB Evolution Ecology &
Organismal Biology Dept and Dr. Darrel Jenerrete, Professor and Landscape
Ecologist Botany and Plant Sciences are the chairs and co-chairs of the
chapter respectively.

SEEDS is a nationwide undergraduate program through the Ecological Society
of America (https://esa.org/seeds/) that helps students build research
experience, professional networks, and career skills in both academic and
non-academic pathways. Through the UCR chapter, undergraduate students may
have opportunities to attend ESA annual meetings, apply for travel awards,
present research, connect with faculty and students from across the
country, explore career and recruitment booths, join webinars, participate
in field trips or field-technique training, and become involved in research
projects. The flyer is attached. Please check it in this regard.

We are looking for graduate student mentors who can commit for
approximately one year. This would not be a highly time-intensive role;
instead, mentors would work according to their (mentor-mentee) conveniences
maintaining the planned activities we have for each quarter.

Depending on student interest and mentor availability, students may also
work on individual or small-group projects that could eventually be
presented at the ESA annual meeting or other undergraduate research venues.
Possible activities may include research discussions, career guidance,
field-based activities, Santa Ana River trail clean-up, or basic
field-technique training.

This is a great opportunity to support undergraduate students, strengthen
mentoring experience, and help build a more active ecology/environmental
science/conservation biology related community at the UCR.

If you are interested in serving as a mentor, please reply in this email
thread, with your name, department/program, year, and research interests.

Thank you so much for considering this opportunity. Have a great week.
With
Warm Regards
Ria Ghosh
