Hi All,

My team at CDFW is hiring a person to evaluate petitions to list invertebrates on the California Endangered Species Act. If you know any postdocs or former PhD students who worked on aquatic or terrestrial inverts, please pass the below job ad along. It looks like we will probably get quite a few petitions to list pollinators so experience in those might be handy.

"The California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s (CDFW) Wildlife Diversity Program (WDP) is seeking a qualified applicant to evaluate and report on invertebrate and other terrestrial wildlife species being considered for listing under the California Endangered Species Act (CESA). The position works with a host of CDFW and external species experts, tribal, state, and federal land managers, and non-governmental conservation organizations to assess the status of wildlife species and the factors that may threaten them. The position will work closely with an amazing team of skilled and friendly colleagues in the WDP, located in West Sacramento, California. This position requires an education and experience in wildlife biology with an emphasis on invertebrates, and the ability to produce detailed reports supported by scientific literature explaining complicated information in a format that is easily understood by fellow scientists and the public."

I am really happy to chat to any interested people about the process of applying and pros and cons of coming from academia to state service, or any other aspect of the job.

Cheers,

Hi all,

This is something I’ve been wanting to share with you for a while! I did not know this was fully approved and public information until Kelly sent the job ad this morning. Our CESA unit is growing a little sooner than expected! This position will add another Listing Coordinator to our group, with a focus on invertebrates (but with the flexibility to work on other taxa and other CESA needs, like the rest of the positions funded by Bio-Res dollars).

Spread the word if you know anyone who might be interested!

-Neil
