[CaTEACH-SMI] REMINDER: CNAS Scholarship Application Due 2/10/12

Eligible graduate and undergraduate students in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences are strongly encouraged to apply for scholarships administered by the College's Committee on Honors and Scholarships. Scholarships are available for Spring Quarter 2012.

The application form is attached to this e-mail and available at: <http://cnasstudent.ucr.edu/research/scholarships.html>.

The deadline to submit application materials is February 10, 2012. Completed application materials should be delivered to the attention of Aaron Bushong, in the CNAS Undergraduate Academic Advising Center, 1223 Pierce Hall.

Applicable research summaries should be written so that people from other disciplines can read and understand them.


Scholarships Available for Spring Quarter 2012:

Bernarr J. Hall Agricultural Scholarship (Up to $1,500 per award): Juniors or seniors with academic or career objectives related to California agriculture (Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Entomology, Environmental Sciences, Plant Biology). Minimum 3.2 GPA. Preference to students from San Diego County. 500-word essay required.

Charles W. Coggins, Jr. Endowed Scholarship Fund (Up to $5,402 per award): Graduate students who demonstrate academic excellence, quality research, and benefit to the citrus industry.

Dana King Scholarship (Up to $6,671 per award): Undergraduate students planning careers in the Southern California agricultural industry. (Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Entomology, Environmental Sciences, Plant Biology).

Dr. Janet M. Boyce Memorial Endowed Fund for Women Majoring in the Sciences (Up to $4,963 per award): Female undergraduate or graduate students majoring in the sciences. Minimum 3.5 GPA.

Dr. Mir S. Mulla and Lelia L. Mulla Endowed Scholarship Fund (Up to $6,577 per award): Undergraduate or graduate students majoring in Entomology or the related fields of Bioagricultural and/or Biomedical Sciences. Minimum 3.5 GPA.

Frank Cozza Agriculture Scholarship: (Up to $1,000 per award): Junior Plant Biology majors. Minimum 3.25 GPA.

Hasegawa Memorial Fund (Up to $4,117 per award): Undergraduate students who have completed their junior year. Majors related to the field of crop agriculture (Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Entomology, Environmental Sciences, Plant Biology).

Herbert Kraft Scholarship (Up to $4,586 per award): California high school graduates pursuing education in the field of agriculture. Preference to graduates from high schools in Tehama, Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Mendocino, Plumas, Shasta, or Trinity Counties.

Homer and Daisy Chapman Endowed Scholarship Fund for Citrus Research (Up to $2,578 per award): Undergraduate or graduate students pursuing studies and research in any phase of citriculture being actively pursued at UCR. Preference to foreign students.

James and Margaret Lesley Annual Prize* (Up to $300 per award): Biology or agriculture students with completed, original research in biological or agricultural science. 1,000-word report required.

James Merrill and Adeline Wallace Annual Prize* (Up to $1,883 per award): Students with completed original research in biological or agricultural sciences (Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Entomology, Environmental Sciences, Plant Biology). 1,000-word report required.

Mark and Eve Schroeder Endowed Student Award (Up to $697 per award): Undergraduate students with financial need majoring in Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciences, or a related field in CNAS. Preference to students with interest in fire science.

Moore-Gandolfo Memorial Scholarship in Chemistry (Up to $1,629 per award): Undergraduate Chemistry majors. Preference to female students.

Nathaniel T. Coleman Endowed Scholarship Fund (Up to $1,200 per award): Continuing CNAS students who have completed at least one year of study at UCR. Minimum 3.25 GPA.

Each applicant must complete the attached application form, which requires a 500-word essay describing his/her academic and career objectives.

Each applicant must submit a total of two faculty nominating letters, regardless of the number of scholarships for which he/she applies.
*Applicants for the James and Margaret Lesley Annual Prize and the James Merrill and Adeline Wallace Annual Prize must include a detailed, 1000-word report summarizing the original research project completed at UCR. The report should describe the nature of the project, the results of the project, and their significance in the applicable field of study. The two faculty nominating letters should emphasize the significance of the research project.
