NSF Noyce Undergraduate Scholarship Application

APPLICATIONS for the Noyce Undergraduate Scholarship Program are now available by visiting http://smi.ucr.edu/noyce.html.

Noyce Scholarship Deadlines:

*         Credential applicants (Fall 2012 UCR Teaching Credential Program): March 30, 2012

*         Undergraduate applicants (2012-13 UCR Seniors): April 11, 2012


Eligibility Requirements:
Degree Requirements:

-          Credential applicants: Pursuing the Single-Subject Science or Mathematics Teaching Credential Candidate at UCR and have already earned a STEM Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.)

-          Undergraduate applicants: Declared major in either the College of Natural Agricultural Sciences (CNAS) or the Bourns College of Engineering (BCOE)
Academic Status: Good Standing
GPA: 3.0 or above (cumulative for credential candidates and completion of 90+ units for junior and senior level students)
Early Field Experiences: Early field experiences
Teaching Credential Potential: Demonstrated eligibility for UCR Teaching Credential Program
Citizenship: U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or Permanent Resident Alien
Exam Completion: CBEST Exam AND one subtest of CSET science/mathematics Exam
Agreement to Teaching Terms and Condition stated below: Accepting the Noyce award requires the recipient to commit to teaching in a high-need school district for two years for each year of Noyce Program support. If the teaching obligation is not met, the scholarship (remaining amount) must be repaid with interest.
Advanced Field Experiences (preferred, not required): SMI & ALPHA Apprentice Program or equivalent

SELECTION CRITERIA:
Noyce Scholarship selection review will be based on:


*         Academic Merit (Primary Consideration)

o   Demonstrated academic excellence as confirmed by academic transcripts

o   Potential to meet UCR credential program requirements

o   Personal Narrative Essays

o   Letter of Recommendation

*         Demonstrated motivation and interest to the teaching profession

*         Financial Need (Secondary Consideration)

o   It has at least one school in which 50% or more of the enrolled students are eligible for participation in free or reduced lunch program.

o   It has at least one school in which: (i) more than 34% of the academic classroom teachers at the secondary level (across all academic subjects) do not have an undergraduate degree with a major or minor in, or a graduate degree in, the academic field in which they teach the largest percentage of their classes; or (ii) more than 34% of teachers in two of the academic departments who do not have an undergraduate degree with a major or minor in, or a graduate degree in, the academic field in which they teach the largest percentage of their classes.

o   It has at least one school whose teacher attrition rate has been 15% or more over the last three school years. What the UCR Noyce Program
