[CaTEACH-SMI] Reminder: CNAS Scholarship Opportunities for Undergraduate & Graduate Students

Eligible graduate and undergraduate students in the College of Natural and
Agricultural Sciences are strongly encouraged to apply for scholarships
administered by the College's Committee on Honors and Scholarships.
Scholarships are available for the 2011 - 2012 academic year.

The deadline to submit application materials is April 22, 2011. Completed
application materials should be delivered to the attention of Aaron Bushong,
in the CNAS Undergraduate Academic Advising Center, 1223 Pierce Hall.
 
Applicable research summaries should be written so that people from other
disciplines can read and understand them.
 
Scholarships Available for the 2011 - 2012 Academic Year:
 
Bernarr J. Hall Agricultural Scholarship (Up to $46,584 available): Juniors
or seniors planning careers in California agriculture. Minimum 3.2 GPA.
Preference to residents of San Diego County. 500-word essay required. 

Dana King Scholarship (Up to $61,244 available): Undergraduate students
planning careers in the agricultural industry.

Dr. Janet M. Boyce Memorial Endowed Fund for Women Majoring in the Sciences
(Up to $4,863 available): Female undergraduate or graduate students majoring
in the sciences. Minimum 3.5 GPA.

Hasegawa Memorial Fund (Up to $22,175 available): Undergraduate students who
have completed their junior year. Majors related to the field of crop
agriculture (Biological Sciences, Biology, Entomology, Plant Biology).

Herbert Kraft Scholarship (Up to $5,859 available): California high school
graduates pursuing education in the field of agriculture.  

James Merrill and Adeline Wallace Annual Prize* (Up to $4,504 available):
Biological or agricultural sciences students with completed original
research in citrus virology or citrus pathology. 1,000-word report required.

Mark and Eve Schroeder Endowed Student Award (Up to $753 available):
Undergraduate students with financial need majoring in Environmental
Sciences, Earth Sciences, or a related field in CNAS.

Nathaniel T. Coleman Endowed Scholarship Fund (Up to $2,075 available):
Continuing CNAS students who have completed at least one year of study at
UCR. Minimum 3.25 GPA.
 
Each applicant must complete the attached application form, which requires a
500-word essay describing his/her academic and career objectives.
 
Each applicant must submit a total of two faculty nominating letters,
regardless of the number of scholarships for which he/she applies.

*Applicants for the James Merrill and Adeline Wallace Annual Prize must
include a detailed, 1000-word report summarizing the original research
project completed at UCR. The report should describe the nature of the
project, the results of the project, and their significance in the
applicable field of study. The relevance of the project to citrus virology
or citrus pathology should be clearly stated. The two faculty nominating
letters should emphasize the significance of the research project.
