Subject: [CaTEACH-SMI] Noyce Scholarships for Juniors and Seniors

Dear Juniors and Seniors,

I am pleased to inform you of an exciting new scholarship opportunity
exclusively available for UCR mathematics and science majors enrolled in
their Junior or Senior year during the 2009-2010 academic year.

The purpose of the NSF-funded Robert Noyce Scholarship Program for Math and
Science Teachers is to encourage talented Science, Technology, Engineering,
and Mathematics (STEM) majors who are considering a career in the teaching
profession and are traversing their pathway to obtain a teaching credential
from the UCR Graduate School of Education.

Each successful Noyce Scholar applicant can receive up to $10,000 per year
in fees and tuition support. The Noyce Scholars selection process will
include consideration of academic achievement, under-representation status,
experience in UCR's pre-teaching programs (SMI, CMST, CUSP, etc.), and
financial need. Preferences will be given to those committed to seek
single-subject credential certification in Biology, Chemistry, Geology,
Mathematics, and/or Physics. Final selection will also be based on the goal
of creating a diverse group of participants in the program.

Upon award of this scholarship, Noyce Scholars are committed to a teaching
apprenticeship in nearby Moreno Valley Unified School District (MVUSD).
Moreover, each successful applicant must agree to teach in MVUSD or another
underserved, underperforming, high need school district approved by the
Noyce Scholarship Program for a minimum of two years after the completion of
the pre-service teaching credential year.

Noyce Scholars are required to obtain their teaching credential at the UCR
Graduate School of Education, attend monthly seminars, meet quarterly with
the Noyce Program advisor, and engage in other Noyce-related activities.
