REMINDER.
Applications for CUSP and CMST are due WEDNESDAY, MARCH 18, 2009
SMI and ALPHA CENTER
proudly present the
2009-10 APPRENTICE PROGRAM:
CMST
(California Mathematics Science Teachers Initiative)
&
CUSP
(College University School Partnership)
CUSP and CMST Fellowships provide year-long, paid field experiences at local
secondary classrooms. Fellows receive a support structure that motivates,
encourages, and develops STEM education. In addition, fellows participate
in professional development opportunities to enhance pedagogical skills and
professional network.

Eligibility Requirements:
* SMI Participant
* Maintain Good Academic Standing
* Completed EDUC 3 and EDUC 4 (C grade or better in each)
* Passed CBEST Exam
Benefits
* Participating in activities that focus K-12 students on college
eligibility
* Developing expert oral and written communication skills
* Learning and exercising good citizenship and community involvement
* Developing professional networks to help with career future
success
* Earning $25.00 per hour for focused school and community efforts
EXPECTATIONS of CMST and CUSP FELLOWS:
* Complete one academic year as CMST or CUSP Fellow
* Complete Field Hours (see below for additional information)**
* Complete one foundation upper-division education course (SMI
approved)
* Complete one of the following courses: EDUC 100A, EDUC/MATH 104 or
MATH 15, NASC 192
* Pass science/mathematics CSET Exam - one subtest
* Participate in a CMST/CUSP approved Summer Training Program
Salary Information:
o $25.00 per hour
o CMST Maximum Earning = $2,000
o CUSP Maximum Earning = $2,500
Minimum Field Hours:
* CMST:
o 20 to 26 hrs per quarter
o Summer Training is required and will be applied toward field hours
* CUSP:
o 35 to 50 hrs per quarter
o Summer Training is required and will be applied toward field hours
**School Placements:
CMST and CMST field experiences are conducted at sites (school, conferences,
training facility) determined by the ALPHA Center.
