Hello All,
I am coming up for air after (almost) finishing my degree, and I want to
breathe new life into this organization, which has such potential.
So to finally meet and to try out some cool technology at the same time,
I would like to propose a meeting of the CARL-IT south librarians in
Second Life sometime in the next few weeks to talk about...what we
should talk about. The CARL-IT north group is really taking off, and I
am getting envious ;). I am going to throw out an arbitrary date and
time and if you don't think you can make it, let me know. It is really
so easy to meet in Second Life that it hardly matters when we choose to
meet. :) How about Friday, November 9th at 1pm.
I have made a CARL-IT (I'm sorry CARL-IT North, I forgot to call it
CARL-IT South and I don't know how to change the name) group in Second
Life and I am leaving the enrollment open for the time being. Simply
search for the group (using the search button on the bottom and the
groups tab) and you will find it.
For those of you reading this message and saying to yourselves "huh?" I
will clarify that Second Life is a sort of visual chat space, online
game, or "immersive environment" For more information go to
http://secondlife.com. You can download and install the software, build
an Avatar and be in business in about 1 hour. It is totally free as
long as you don't get addicted.
I am checking with ALA to see if they have any conference rooms I can
use, but otherwise I will nuke my kitchen set and make a conference
table in my SL living room. :) I will send you the teleport coordinates
when I know for sure.
Please let me know if you are interested, so I can make enough chairs.
