Carl-IT South Members,
The San Jose State University School of Library and Information Science student organization is having a Professional Association Day on Sunday, October 29th at Cal State Fullerton (see message below) and we have been asked to send a representative from CARL-IT. We have also been invited to make a presentation. This will be a great opportunity to network with emerging library professionals and, if you would like to make a presentation, to hone your public speaking skills.
 
On a personal note, I realize that since I accepted the Chairmanship, not much has happened with this group. Unfortunately, shortly after I agreed to be the Chair early this year, our Director announced his resignation which left me in a dual role since then. I regret that I have not been able to provide CARL-IT South with genuine leadership this year. But rather than step down, I decided to just keep the raft afloat, maintaining the list and responding to any questions or issues that come out way. Thankfully, this has been very managable as there have not been many requests or email traffic. However, I do believe that this group can and should be more active. You can help our SIG to become viable again. Please consider getting involved in this event.

Suellen Cox recommended that I contact you regarding  LISSTEN's upcoming  Professional Association's Day event. The San Jose State University School of Library and Information Science student organization, LISSTEN (Library and Information Science Students to Encourage Networking) will host our annual Professional Associations Day. The purpose of this day is not only to provide students access to the many library associations that support the field of librarianship, but also create a greater awareness of these associations. We want to encourage student membership in professional organizations and networking within the profession at their earliest opportunity.  

The event is scheduled for Sunday, October 29, 2006 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Room 130 of the California State University Fullerton's Pollak Library. We would like to invite CARL-IT to participate in this event. Each association will be provided with an information table that students may visit to gather more information. As LISSTEN is a student-run organization, we are asking for a small donation of $10 from participating associations. If you would like a representative to speak at the event, there would be an additional $10 donation (for a total of $20). 

We encourage you to consider being present at the event as this is an opportunity for you and our students to meet you and ask questions. As library students, we often hear about your associations; however, we would appreciate, and benefit from, the opportunity to make a real connection with you. In whatever capacity you are able to participate, the funds will be used to cover event refreshments and promotion expenses. 

Please let us know no later than October 16, 2006 if either a representative is able to attend the event or, if you would like to provide materials for display at an information table. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at lbellamy42 at sbcglobal.net.
