Subject: Updates from DCFA/DYFA Fellowship Office Hours
To:

Dear All,

Thank you to the many of you that joined us for our fellowship office hours.

I wanted to clear up some of the main points that were raised today - one
of which I answered incorrectly!

   1. *Filing Fee:* Students that received a DCFA but failed to graduate
before the end of the award *CAN *use filing fee for one quarter after
the end of the award. They are NOT eligible for employment but filing fee
remains a last resort for those students. Programs will still be subject to
a reduction in nominations until the student graduates.
   2. *Normative time*: Students that are beyond normative time *ARE* eligible
for DCFAs. We would like to graduate our students and those that are beyond
normative time are often the ones that need help the most. However please
carefully judge this within your program. If the student shows a pattern of
not meeting deadlines then the DCFA may not be the best option.
   3. *Diversity statement: *A Diversity Statement is *NO* longer required
for DYFA or PP-DDI-HSI awards. Instead, we are looking for a short
statement on their societal contribution. This would be an opportunity for
students to talk about any outreach or leadership or their understanding of
   overcoming adversity.
   4. *Graduate Program Coordinator*: For those of you that are especially
reticent to use SLATE, you can provide the Graduate Program
Coordinator/Student Staff Advisor access and they can assist with
   nominations.

We look forward to another year of awarding fellowships!

All the best,

Emma
