Hello Grad Students,

BcMB GSA is piloting the Inspire Science Symposium on January 29, 2026, at HUB

The Inspire Science Symposium Outreach and Sustainability program will
bring together 50–100 high school students from disadvantaged
backgrounds, 150–200
first- and second-year undergraduate students, and approximately 50
graduate students from across all STEM programs, along with faculty and
advisors, on the same platform to discuss science.

The event is inspired and initiated by BcMB GSA members, who represent
diverse graduate programs and backgrounds, many of whom are
first-generation college students and are committed to mentoring and
encouraging young minds to pursue science at UCR.

We are looking for highly motivated graduate students who have faced
challenging paths, particularly as first-generation students, and who have
unique stories that can inspire others.

The second part of the program will focus on undergraduate research
opportunities. Interested undergraduates will submit applications by early
April, which will be reviewed by a graduate student–led committee. Selected
outstanding first-generation students will participate in a one-day
workshop designed to help them identify research opportunities across
departments, connect with PhD mentors, and receive continued guidance
throughout their academic careers.

We will have giveaways and refreshments.
