[Bphystudent] Winter 2025 Course Selection

Good Morning BPHY Students!

I hope that you all are doing well! For my first years you are close to completing your first semester in the graduate program! Congratulations! You are almost done with your step one in your educational pursuits. For my 2nd years and above, keep up the great work! All of what you are doing will pay off in the near future. Just wanted to send a quick reminded to enroll in classes for Winter 2025. Always remember to consult the updated handbook attached below, and the course catalogue from the year you entered the program.

-First Years,
All students are required to take a sequence of core courses (BCH 184, BCH 210, and PHYS 246) in their first year, and complete a series of research rotations in laboratories of participating faculty under BPHY 297 as part of the thesis advisor selection process. Participation in the Biophysics Graduate Seminar (BPHY 252) is also required for each quarter the student is enrolled; each student is expected to present a formal research seminar in this course prior to graduation.

 An example of your schedule for this term should be:

BIOL 203 (3 units),  BCH 184 (4 units), BPHY 252 (1 unit), and BPHY 297 (1-6 units)

Remember you must always take BPHY 252 if it is available. You should always be in units of BPHY 297 or BPHY 299 depending on your rotations.

Always be in 12 units to maintain funding and full-time status.


-2nd Year and above
Review your degree audit. Make sure any missing course work or items are being cleared. You should always consult with your PI to decide your course work selection. At this time most of you should always be enrolled in:

BPHY 252 (1 unit), and/or BPHY 297 or BPHY 299

Always be in 12 units to maintain funding and full-time status.

In addition any additional elective units that need to be fulfilled should be from the approved elective units in the course catalogue.

Approved Elective Courses include: BCH 186, BCH 187, BCH 230F, BIEN 135, BIEN 142, BIEN 160, BIEN 165, BIEN 242, BIEN 245, BIEN 249, BIEN 251, CHEM 201A, CHEM 201B, CHEM 201C, CHEM 201D, CHEM 201E, CHEM 206A, CHEM 206B, CHEM 209M, CHEM 211D, CHEM 229Q, PHYS 145A, PHYS 145B, PHYS 145C, PHYS 212A, PHYS 212B
