Subject: TA Application open for Winter 2021

Dear CNAS Life Sciences Graduate Students,

Winter 2021 TA applications for courses in the life sciences (BCH, BIOL, BPSC, CBNS, ENTM, MCBL) are now available! The deadline to submit an application is Monday, October 5, 2020. The system will shut down at 11:59pm on 10/05/20 and no late applications will be accepted.

Please logon to http://taonline.ucr.edu to submit your application as soon as possible. If you submitted an application for a previous term, you are still required to log in each quarter, review or edit your course requests, and Confirm/Submit your application in order to be considered for the next term.

Here is some additional information for common application issues/questions:

* If you cannot find your Major Professor on the drop-down please let me or your Student Services Advisor know and we will get them added immediately so you can complete your application.

* Sometimes there are two lectures of the same course (for example: BIOL 005A 001 and BIOL 005A 030). If you are interested in being considered for both sections, please list both on your priority list.

* We previously had students Submit an application with no courses requested. If you do not request any classes for Winter 2021, you will not appear on the list of potential TAs for the class. Neither the instructors nor the TAAC members can see your application and you are unlikely to be appointed. It is important to request all classes for which you are qualified when completing your application. This ensures that you appear for consideration to many instructors/departments.

* We are also concerned that students do not list all relevant previous coursework. The committee uses previous coursework information to determine suitability to TA a particular course. In some cases, although you did not request a specific course on your list, they will consider appointing you if you have an appropriate background. Failure to list all prior relevant coursework can reduce your chances of appointment.

* The TA Online Manual has a list of materials to gather before you apply for the first time. It is available via link from the front page of http://taonline.ucr.edu

If you have any trouble with the application or have questions, please let me know right away and I will be happy to help.

Kathy
