Good morning everyone,

The message below went to selected students in CNAS today. As many of you
may know, the employment process for graduate students has now moved to the
Graduate Student Management System (GSMS), including the TA application
process. Here are the major updates:

   -

PI Approval Required: For the Winter 2027 application, students must
upload an email from their PI showing approval of their application. This
is a change from the previous process as PI’s will only need to provide
email approval to students now. Because this approval email is required to
submit the application, we are encouraging students to reach out to their
PIs as early as possible. Please note that students without a PI will reach
out to their Graduate Advisor for approval.
   -

Application Deadline: Friday, October 23, 2026

TA applications are only open for Winter 2027. Students who may have
submitted an application in TA Online for this current year must submit a
TA application in GSMS if they wish to be considered for Winter 2027 TA
positions.

You are welcome to forward the TA application email to your students in
other majors.

Sincerely,

*Tiffany Chen*

Dear CNAS Life Sciences Graduate Students,

Winter 2027 TA applications for courses in the life sciences (BCH, BIOL,
BPSC/GBNT, CBNS, ENTM, MCBL) are now available! The deadline to apply
is Friday,
October 23, 2026. The application will close at 11:59pm on October 23, so
please be sure to submit your application on time.

The TA application process has now moved to the Graduate Student Management
System (GSMS). Please login to gradsms.ucr.edu to submit your application
as soon as possible. Many of you may have submitted an application in TA
Online indicating your interest to TA for Winter 2027 already. However, you
must submit an application in GSMS if you remain interested in a TA
position for Winter 2027.

Applications are open to all students; Master's students are encouraged to
apply.

With the transition to GSMS, there are some new application requirements
we’d like to point out.

   1.

Course Selection: We recommend that you select all classes for which you
are qualified when completing your application. This ensures that you
appear for consideration to many instructors/departments.

   2.

PI Approval: For the Winter 2027 TA application, students will be
required to upload an email from your PI noting approval of your TA
application. If you do not have a PI yet, please reach out to your Graduate
Advisor for approval. Please reach out to your PI or Graduate Advisor
early so they have enough time to respond before you submit your
application. We recommend uploading the PI/Graduate Advisor approval
email as a PDF document. Please see the attached document for steps on how
to convert an email in Gmail to a PDF document.

   3.

TA Evaluations: If you have previous teaching experience at UCR, please
upload your teaching evaluation(s) to the application. Teaching evaluations
from other institutions may also be uploaded. Students who do not have
prior teaching experience can skip this section.

   4.

Transcript Upload: The committee uses previous coursework information to
determine suitability to TA a particular course. In some cases, you may be
considered for TA courses that you did not request if the committee feels
you have the appropriate background. Please upload a current UCR transcript
to the application. You may also upload transcripts from previous
institutions if you have completed coursework there that can demonstrate
your preparation to TA for courses in CNAS.

If you have any trouble with the application or have questions, please let
me know right away and I will be happy to help.

Sincerely,

*Tiffany Chen*
