[Bphyfaculty] BPHY Faculty Vote: Oral Qualifying Exam and Final Defense Modality

Dear Dr. Debus,

I hope all is well.

This is a requirement requested by Grad Council for all programs. Faculty can vote to have one, two, or all three options. The (2 can be selected) was an example that more than one option can be included.  The modality from the Oral Qualifying Exam and Final Defense Modality will be required by Grad Council to be added to the catalog for Fall 2024.

Hi Marlene,

Sorry, but I don’t understand what we’re expected to vote on.   What does “…modality options (2 can be selected)…” mean?   Why would we place in the catalog wording stating that one can chose two of these options instead of choosing only one option or choosing any of the three?

Please clarify.

Dear BPHY Faculty,

I would like to collect your vote on the Oral Qualifying Exam and Final Defense modality on behalf of Dr. Zandi. Grad Council will update the catalog and input the modality for the oral qualifying examination and final defense. (This will be a procedure in which all programs’ coordinators will submit, not only BPHY).

Revised Procedures for Modality and Remote Participation on Oral Qualifying Exam and Final Defense:

Oral Qualifying Exam and Final Defense modality options (2 can be selected), for example, both in-person or remote or both in-person and hybrid:
In-Person – all committee members and students physically present
Hybrid - some committee members/students in-person, some committee members/students remote
Remote - all committee members and students have the option to attend remotely.
