“The biology of tRNA modifications: Insights from evolutionarily distant yeast species”



Dr. Eric Phizicky is a Professor in the Dept. of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the Univ. of Rochester. He was trained as a Ph.D. student with Dr. Jeff Roberts at Cornell and completed his postdoctoral training with John Abelson at CalTech. He joined Univ. of Rochester to continue his tRNA processing work using yeast. His work focuses on tRNA splicing, and then tRNA modifications and quality control, an research interest he has held for more than 30 years. He has discovered many tRNA modification enzymes, helping establish tRNA as the model system for RNA modifications. He is an AAAS fellow and serves as the deputy and now senior editor of the RNA journal
