  *   Blackberry Genetics and Genomics

Two merit-based research assistantships are available at the University of Florida (UF) in the new Plant Breeding Graduate Program. One assistantship is for a PhD-level graduate student in the area of horticultural crop genetics and genome editing. Dissertation research will focus on genome sequencing and analysis, development and application of molecular markers, genome editing, and assessment of gene-edited mutants for disease resistance and other traits in horticultural crops, including citrus, blackberry, and ornamental plants. Another assistantship is also for a PhD-level graduate student but in the area of blackberry genetics, genomics, and breeding for fruiting habit, berry size, and chilling requirement.

The awards are available for Summer or Fall 2023. Each assistantship will include a competitive stipend and tuition waiver. The positions will be located at the UF’s Gulf Coast Research and Education Center (https://gcrec.ifas.ufl.edu/).
