Hello everyone,

The BGSA is putting on a Celebration of Diversity in Botany symposium on June 2nd, so mark your calendars. This will be a full day event and will include a range of speakers from UCR and outside the university. We will be having student lightning talks and a career panel as well.

We are calling for Student speakers and there will be hundreds of dollars in cash prizes available for student lightning talks! This symposium is in collaboration with Corteva Agriscience and will include our annual Yermanos and Gomez Pompa speakers. As we mentioned we will be doing student lightning talks to take the place of the usual poster session. These talks will be 5-10 minutes with only a few slides, they will be judged by a faculty committee. 1st-3rd place will be getting at least $200 and all other student talks will receive $100. This is also a great opportunity for students to share their work with the plant science community, build their CV, and get public speaking experience! Slots are limited, so please submit lightning talk abstracts to the BGSA email (bpscminigsa at gmail.com<mailto:bpscminigsa at gmail.com>) for evaluation. We will be accepting abstracts through May 5th.

We will be sending out more information about the event, the registration link, our speaker list, and the schedule for the day in the coming weeks!

Best,
