Dear Biomed PhD students and faculty advisors,

It is time for the yearly progress reports. Annual Research Progress Evaluations (ARPEs) are typically due at the end of spring, but due to COVID-19 graduate division has approved a later deadline. This year the evaluations are due no later than September 15, 2022.

Please schedule the ARPE meeting (virtually) with your guidance or dissertation committee this spring or summer.

If you are just completing Year 1, work with your major professor/PI to form your guidance committee (your PI plus 2 additional faculty). Schedule the ARPE meeting with your guidance committee once it has been established. If you have not confirmed your home lab, please reach out to Dr. Sika Zheng to discuss your options for completing the ARPE.

Attached is the new ARPE form (word doc), fillable-PDF, and general instructions for completing the form. The one-page research summary is now incorporated into the form. You should be able to edit the fillable fields if you need more or less space.

  * Preference is to set-up in-person APRE meeting, but we will permit virtual meeting if all faculty members are not available.
  * Students should fill out the data for the Academic Progress and Professional Development sections (pages 3-7) and distribute electronic copies to the committee for review prior to the meeting (at least one week).
  * After meeting, the form can be routed electronically for signatures. Electronic signatures will be admissible in lieu of wet signatures.
  * Once the student and committee have signed the ARPE, the major professor/chairperson should email the form to the BMSC graduate advisor, Dr. Sika Zheng, Sika.Zheng at ucr.edu<mailto:Sika.Zheng at ucr.edu>.
  * Dr. Zheng will submit to me, Hermila Torres, hermila.torres at medsch.ucr.edu<mailto:hermila.torres at medsch.ucr.edu> for final processing and reporting to the Graduate Division.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best Regards,
