Subject: Mentoring opportunities for Biomed Graduate Students

Dear Biomed students

The Graduate Division offers a Peer Mentorship program (GSMP) every year to incoming graduate students to help them navigate the ins and outs of being a graduate student at UCR and in their specific program. This is essentially a formalized way of running a Big Sib program.

This year we have 5 incoming Biomed students that have signed up to be mentees but we need current Biomed students to be mentors.

This is a 7% paid position with students being paid $20/hr with an average of 11 hours per month with perhaps more hours in the Fall and less in the Spring when the first years have their footing.
You would meet with your mentees weekly in groups or individually which can look like emails and texts as the year progresses. You would provide a biweekly report to the Program on how your mentee is doing and take part in a quarterly training/professional development session during the year.

I know many of you are very invested in supporting the incoming students and mentorship in general so this may be a great opportunity. If you are interested either email me (emma.wilson at ucr.edu<mailto:emma.wilson at ucr.edu>) or the Director of the program, Hillary Jenks (Hillary.jenks at ucr.edu<mailto:Hillary.jenks at ucr.edu>).

Thank you!
All the best
Emma
