[Biomed_students_phd] CGNI symposium postponed - Update on Beginning of Winter Quarter

Dear CGNI community:

Thank you for your interest to attend the "15th Annual Southern California Symposium on Glial-Neuronal Interactions in Health and Disease".

Since we could not meet in person for our symposium this past year, many of us are looking forward to having an in person event next year. However, the recent news concerning the spread of the Omicron variant,  makes it imperative that we take the necessary precautions to reduce the likelihood of transmission. Yesterday, Chancellor Wilcox of UC Riverside shared several important updates on the beginning of the winter quarter. (please reference the email attached).

In recognition of the potential health risks, Chancellor Wilcox issued a new directive for campus, prohibiting any large in-person indoor events on campus for the first two weeks of the winter quarter.

In compliance with this directive, the CGNI committee has decided to postpone the symposium until the spring quarter of 2022, in the hopes that we can return to an in person event. In-person interactions amongst all registrants during poster sessions and engagement with our prominent speakers, have always been the heart and soul of our symposium.

The committee will continue its discussions in hopes of identifying a date to convene for an in-person symposium, and will certainly keep our CGNI community updated.
