[Biomed_students_phd] Winter and Spring 2022 BMSC 254 - Research in Progress Student Schedule

Dear Biomed PhD Students,

Please find attached the schedule for BMSC 254 Pizza Friday Seminar - Research in Progress for Winter and Spring Quarters 2022.

The first presentation will be Friday, January 7, 2022.

BMSC Graduate Program Recruitment Day is on January 22,2021 and we hope all will be involved. Dr. Garcia-Castro and I will send the schedules and info about the day.
We will have 2 student talks during recruitment: one from a student close to defense and one earlier in the graduate school career. We proposed 2 names, but are open to changes, so please e-mail me if you are unable to present on that day.

Since we have more students than available Fridays, preference is given to more senior students to prepare for the rapidly approaching defense. These students will be given one session to present. Year 1-3, we had to group students in fewer days. Please note, we need to strictly adhere to the time slots especially when there are 2 or more presenters. If you run over, this takes away time from someone else presenting. The class is now a 50-minute window, so we need to be considerate the limited time for each student to present.


  *   Year 4-6 students have a 40 min. presentation time slot (35 minute talk and 5-10 minutes for Q&A)
  *   Years 2-3 students have a 15-min. presentation time slot (15 minute talk and 2-3 minutes for Q&A) - 3 presentations are scheduled each Friday
  *   Year 1 students have 10-min. presentation time slot (8 minute talk and 2 minutes for Q&A) - all five presentations are scheduled for one Friday)

If you have a conflict with your assigned date, for whatever reason, find a person in your cohort to switch and notify me and Dr. Sika Zheng of the change.

A reminder, Pizza Friday is mandatory class. It is important to support your fellow students, so schedule your experiments and lab time accordingly.

New hybrid schedule as of September 2021: Available in-person on campus Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. I will be available remotely on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:00AM-4:30PM.

Campus will be closed to observe the Winter Break starting Thursday, December 23, 2021. Business operations will resume Monday, January 3, 2022. Happy Holidays!
