Greetings BFASA Peeps,
On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, African Student Programs and the Black Student
Union will host our annual Unity Day at UC Riverside, and there was a
special request made by the student planning committee that we have our
Black faculty and staff present throughout the event.
Knowing that have a lot of new folx on BFASA, a quick primer on Unity Day:
*Unity Day brings local high school (primarily Black) students to campus
for a day designed to motivate them to pursue academic excellence and
explore postsecondary education. Throughout the day, these scholars will
participate in workshops, connect with our community, and engage with
current UCR students who will share their experiences navigating college
life.*
As of today, we will have over *200 young scholars *from several local
schools and districts. The presence of Black faculty and staff helps
reinforce what makes our community a real success: a commitment to Black
scholar success, community, and tapping in when it matters.
We invite you to stop by, say hello, and help us create a welcoming
environment for our guests. Even a brief visit can make a meaningful impact
on students who are imagining themselves in college spaces for the first
time.
If you are available, pull up one time! Whether to greet students, attend
part of the program, or simply show your support. Just show your face when
you can. No pressure.
Onward and Upward,
Jamal J. Myrick, Ed.D.
