Tuesdays 11am-12pm @245 Costo Hall
Thursday 11am-12pm @3117 Hinderaker Hall

Underground Scholars is now offering recovery meetings for all UCR students, staff, and faculty. Recovery meetings are safe space for any one who is struggling with addiction or is impacted by it in their life. We recognize that substance abuse disproportionally affects those apart of marginalized communities- such as student parents, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and those who were formerly incarcerated. We want to offer a space that is welcoming for people of across all identities to start taking steps toward a solution. The meeting structure borrows from AA, NA, and CMA literature, and all meetings are court approved. Allies welcome!

Wednesday, March 31, 2024, 1pm @ City Hall(to the Civil Rights Institute)

Transgender Day of Visibility (“TDoV”) is an annual event occurring on March 31 dedicated to celebrating transgender people and raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide, as well as a celebration of their contributions to society. Due to the day falling on Easter Sunday in 2024, we're observing this equally important day on March 30th.

Wednesday, March 20, 2024, 1-2:30pm @zoom

ICLS will be hosting a free, virtual Advance Health Care Directive Clinic on Wednesday, March 20th from 1- 2:30 pm (location: Zoom). We have partnered with a law firm that will be providing our community members with free legal education and advance directive document preparation services. Thereafter, the ICLS team will assist clients with executing their advance directives and providing follow-up information.

An advance directive (aka a healthcare power of attorney) is a legal document that gives your doctors certain orders in case of an emergency and advises doctors of the identity of the person you want to make emergency decisions on your behalf if you are incapacitated. Advance directives are particularly significant for LGBTQ+ patients because without this legal document, healthcare providers may not recognize a partner or spouse as the right medical decision-maker for you. In some cases, LGBTQ+ patients do not want their parents, adult children, or other blood-relatives to be their decision-maker due to estrangement, etc. Moreover, an advance directive instructs medical providers on what type of care you want to receive, including gender-affirming care, during times of medical emergencies.

Interested students who complete the inquiry form will receive a call back from me to conduct a 15–20-minute eligibility screening. As a gentle reminder, ICLS is a federally funded, non-profit with three core eligibility requirements: the applicant must (1) be a resident of Riverside or San Bernardino county; (2) be a U.S. Citizen; and (3) be living at or below 200% of the federal poverty line. Folx who are deemed eligible will subsequently receive the Zoom meeting information confirming their spot in the clinic.
