Subject: Please Help Us Circulate This Call :)

Greetings,

The University of California, Merced invites submissions for its inaugural Africana Studies Conference. The format will be hybrid (presenters can attend online or in person at the University of California, Merced, CA). The conference, Being and Becoming: Blackness in Multiple Contexts, seeks to interrogate the distinct experiences of Being, (awareness of a Black identity), and Becoming, (understanding how one is perceived by the world). We invite graduate student scholars, early career PhDs, and professionals to investigate what it means to be and become Black in multiple contexts including but not limited to: local, national, and international geographic locations, academia, business, social, political, cultural, public, private, affluent, working class, and tech spaces among others. Please see the call for papers<https://blackalliance.ucmerced.edu/2023-conference> for additional details.

The extended deadline for submission is November 10th, 2022. All completed proposals should be sent to UCMAfricanaStudiesConference at gmail.com<mailto:UCMAfricanaStudiesConference at gmail.com>. Please circulate the CFP (linked above) to your student and scholar groups.

The UC Merced Africana Studies Conference is organized by UC Merced graduate scholars, with the direction of Dr. Maria Martin<https://www.ucmerced.edu/content/maria-martin>, (professor, scholar, and coordinator of the UC Merced Black Alliance<https://blackalliance.ucmerced.edu/>). Any questions can be directed to UCMAfricanaStudiesConferece at gmail.com<mailto:UCMAfricanaStudiesConferece at gmail.com>.

Thank you,

The UC Merced Africana Studies Conference
