Hello!

On behalf of Dr. Chandra Ford and the UCLA Center for the Study of Racism, Social Justice & Health, I'd like to share this upcoming event and ask for your help distributing the news among your networks.

During each quarter of the academic year, our center hosts a Distinguished Quarterly Speaker Series. For Fall 2022, our speaker will be Dr. Sharrelle Barber from Drexel University and the Ubuntu Center on Racism, Global Movements & Population Health Equity.

We invite you to join us on December 2, 2022, from 12:00-1:30 pm PT for Dr. Barber's presentation, titled "Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired: Advancing Antiracism Scholarship and Solutions Beyond the Pandemic," about the deadly consequences of racism that have been on full display during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using Fannie Lou Hamer's life and activism as an entry point, this talk will explore data on racial inequities in Black communities and discuss ways the field of public health can advance antiracism scholarship and solutions beyond the pandemic.

Dr. Barber will speak via Zoom, and all are welcome to register. For those on the UCLA campus, we invite you to join us at the Neuroscience Research Building (NRB) Auditorium<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=https%3a%2f%2fgoo.gl%2fmaps%2fPAVQCwXBdv15visA7&c=E,1,cOZFA0crXN1mv-xU6_uB_LG_oJfAs6Hp-U52biN0kYBpCdviWpguQC7fl6rb3MoTpq4JN_S1z4vaD5xMHdOk3lFsA5K9625eTHDlb1YkQ_xWFE38wLJQaMH0aY8,&typo=1> for a live webcast of Dr. Barber's presentation, followed by a brief in-person discussion among attendees.

Thank you for helping us spread the word about this upcoming event!

Regards,
Minelle

We have recently learned that land acknowledgements listed at the end of an email may not necessarily be the best way to honor indigenous communities. For now, we retain the acknowledgement below. Please know that we are intentionally exploring how best to proceed in light of ongoing conversations about this.
