Subject: [BFASA] Call for BFASA Guest Speakers for the Blue, Gold & Black Mentorship Program

[cid:image004.png at 01D7F1AD.3481FF90]

Hello Family,

BFASA (via the Professional Development Committee) has entered a partnership with Undergraduate Admissions (via Allura Davis) and Undergraduate Education (via Dr. Kevin Graham) to help facilitate the "Blue, Gold & Black Mentorship Program." The mentorship program has several components and one of those components will be a monthly meeting where a BFASA member facilitates a 30-minute presentation on a topic of his/her/their choice to the mentees and mentors. The purpose of these presentations is to do the following:

· Create an environment where mentees and mentors have the opportunity to learn more about Black staff and faculty at the personal level.

· Provide an environment where mentees and mentors can engage with each other in a group setting and cultivate a community of support at UCR.

· Provide an opportunity for BFASA members to engage with a segment of the Black undergraduate population as well with graduate students, faculty, and staff from various departments.

The official name of this program component is still pending, but the plan is to host this meeting on the first Thursday of each month at 4pm beginning in February 2022 and ending in June 2022. The meetings will be held virtually (via Zoom) until otherwise specified as to be mindful of the spread of Covid. The topic of choice is completely at the discretion of the BFASA member presenting. We ask that speakers select a topic they are truly passionate about. The topic might cover an important social issue, the nature of one's profession, professional development, personal development, mental/physical health, a hobby, and much more.

If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the form found at the link below and a representative from the program will be in contact with you. Please complete the form no later than Tuesday, December 14th by 4pm. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email me - victor.moreira at ucr.edu<mailto:victor.moreira at ucr.edu>. Please note you do not have to be a mentor to present.

Allura, Dr. Graham, and I would like to thank the BFASA members that have already volunteered to serve as a mentor for the program. Please note that it is not too late to join the program and become a mentor if you are interested. If you would like to join, please contact me and I'll connect you with Dr. Graham.

Best,
