Subject: New issue of Reorient: studies on Marxism, Dependency and
World-Systems
To: <cadu.m180 at gmail.com>
In this issue of Reorient we present the dossier on imperialism,
geopolitics and war and free themes. The wars in Afghanistan (2001-2021)
and Iraq (2003-2011) produced major debates and theoretical elaborations on
imperialism, war, and geopolitics. The same happened in 2014, when the
debate on a possible New Cold War, Third World War and/or Hybrid World War
gained momentum to analyze the development of specific conflicts in
relation to the dispute for world power. Undoubtedly, a new escalation of
warfare is underway, and the heightening of tensions between poles of power
calls for the concept to be revisited and expanded.
The dossier includes the following articles: From G7 to BRICS+: the
transition of the world system and the geopolitical scenario, by Gabriel
Merino; Structural limits of capital by Mészáros and the limits of the war
on China, by Samuel Spellman; The China-Russia-Iran geo-strategic triangle
challenges the power of the Triad, by Martín Alejandro Martinelli; “Soft
Imperialism': US assistance and lawfare in Latin America, by Silvina Maria
Romano, Tamara Lajtman and Anibal García Fernández; The United States and
the process of militarisation in Latin America,, by Loreta Telleria; and
Points of contact, sources of conflict: the imperialist experience in Cuba,
by Maria do Carmo Luiz Caldas Leite.
In the free papers section, Sebastian Link Chaparro recovers the Marxist
theory of dependency and articulates it with world-system analyses to
interpret the cycles of social and political struggles in Chile. In the
tributes section, Abdiel Rodriguez Reyes analyzes the life and work of
Enrique Dussel, Caio Bugiato discusses Leo Panitch's contributions to the
theory of contemporary imperialism. Eurico de Lima Figueiredo and Fernando
Vieira recover the importance of the work of René Armand Dreyfuss, and
Eguimar Felício Chaveiro analyzes the thought of Carlos Walter Porto
Gonçalves. Ricardo Gomes closes this issue with a review of Claudio Katz's
book, La Crisis del Sistema Imperial.
