Subject: Latine/x Doctoral Applicant Research Study: Recruiting Interview Participants

Hello! My name is Maricela Bañuelos and I am a Sociology Ph.D. candidate at the University of California, Irvine. I am conducting a longitudinal study on the forms of support and challenges that shape Latine/x doctoral application processes and or experiences once enrolled in a doctoral program. Knowledge gained from this study could inform institutions of possible ways to support Latine/a/o/x doctoral recruitment and persistence.
Would you be interested in hearing more about the study? If yes, great!
You are eligible to participate in this study if you meet all of the following criteria:
1. Identify as Latine/x/a/o or Hispanic, and
2. Are at least 18 years of age or older, and
3. Applied to a social science or STEM doctoral program(s) in Fall of 2021 or Winter of 2022 for admission into a doctoral program Fall 2022 (regardless of whether you are enrolling in a doctoral program or not) and
4. Applied to doctoral program(s) Fall of 2021 or Winter of 2022 for admission into a doctoral program Fall 2022 at any of the following universities: University of California, Irvine or, University of California, Santa Barbara or University of California, Riverside.
If you choose to participate in the study, you will be invited to complete a short 5 minute demographic survey and participate in up to three one-on-one interviews through Zoom which will take place 1) Fall 2022, 2) Spring/Summer 2023, and 3) Spring/ Summer 2024. Each interview will last about 60-90 minutes and you will receive a $40 Amazon gift card after each interview. Participants that participate in three interviews will receive a total of $120 compensation in Amazon gift cards. If you are interested, please email me (maricelb at uci.edu<mailto:maricelb at uci.edu>) and I can send you more information and hopefully schedule a time for the interview.
Warmly,
Mari
