From allgsacfaculty at lists.ucr.edu Thu Sep 24 09:27:33 2026 From: allgsacfaculty at lists.ucr.edu (allgsacfaculty at lists.ucr.edu) Date: Thu, 24 Sep 2026 09:27:33 -0700 Subject: [Allgsacfaculty] Invitation to deploy brief student survey on AI use in STEM courses Message-ID: Dear colleague, We hope you?re doing well. We?re writing to ask whether you are willing to help with an IRB-approved study examining how students are using AI tools in STEM courses and how AI is affecting their mental well-being. We are inviting instructors of STEM courses to deploy a short, anonymous Qualtrics survey in their STEM courses this quarter. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes for students to complete and can be completed outside of class time.Your participation in deploying our survey is completely voluntary. We kindly ask that you provide a small amount of extra credit (no more than 0.5% of the total course grade). Awarding this minimal extra credit is required as part of the IRB-approved protocol; if this is not feasible, please feel free to decline participation. To ensure students have a choice, those who prefer not to complete the survey may instead complete an alternative assignment consisting of reading a short provided article and answering a few questions. Both the survey and the alternative assignment are housed within the same Qualtrics link. A few additional details: - The study has received IRB approval. - The survey is fully anonymous. - The survey should be deployed in Weeks 5-6 of the quarter. - To minimize your workload, we can provide a ready-to-post Canvas announcement with all necessary instructions. - The extra credit can be awarded by creating a Canvas ?assignment? in your course and having students upload a screenshot of the Qualtrics completion screen. The time/effort required from you is restricted to posting a Canvas announcement and managing the extra credit. *If this is something you?d be open to, please let us know so we can provide you with the Canvas announcement including the Qualtrics link.* We appreciate your consideration. Thank you for your time. Best regards, Analisa Flores, Assoc. Prof. of Teaching, Statistics (analisa.flores at ucr.edu ) Selene Bobadilla, Asst.
