On Campus Resources & Programs
UCR's Department of English invites you to join acclaimed writer, Manuel Muñoz, for reading and discussion of The Consequences (Graywolf Press, 2022), his newest short story collection. The stories tell of the mundane and extraordinary events in the daily lives of Mexican and Mexican American farmworkers in the small towns of California's Central Valley during the 1980s. Muñoz's characters navigate messy and often violent realities, from the quotidian struggles of everyday life to the terror of immigration and deportation, and in his stories these realities are treated with tenderness and care.
DATE & TIME: Thursday, March 2, 2023, 3-5pm.
LOCATION: INTS 1128
*** This event is free and open to the public.
Sponsored by the Department of English. Co-sponsored by: Department of Creative Writing's Writer's Week, Tomás Rivera Chair, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Department of Ethnic Studies, Department of Gender and Sexuality Studies, the Center for Ideas and Society, and the Latino and Latin American Research Center.

I would also like to highlight that the given the criteria set by CSAC for the Middle Class Scholarship, some students may not be eligible for additional aid (including ECRT) due to no room available in their financial aid budget. We are working closely with Financial Aid to minimize the impact this may have on students however we anticipate some students may not be able to adjust their budgets to make room to award any additional aid.
Housing Assistance
As many of you know, we have a few vacancies, one of which is our Housing Specialist who provides support to students who are experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity. Currently we can assist with emergency housing through a referral from a faculty or staff member.
Please see the information below on how to refer a student:
1. Email referral to Basic Needs Coordinator, Vivian Gonzales- vivian.gonzalez at ucr.edu<mailto:vivian.gonzalez at ucr.edu>
* Please include Student Name, SID, and a brief description of the student situation.
2. BN Coordinator will outreach to student to schedule a housing intake meeting to determine eligibility
* Eligibility is determined by a variety of factors including current housing status, services already used and other resources accessible to students-including ECRT

Jason Wohlmuth was a talented, enthusiastic, and adventurous UCR student. Amongst his favorite things to do were spending time with the ones he loved and using his predilection for humor to inspire smiles and laughter in those around him. Jason was selfless with his friendship, his positivity, and his service to others. Tragically, at age 21, he died from a combination of prescription medications and alcohol. Although other people were around him, no one intervened or called 911. The Jason Wohlmuth Award for Student Health & Wellness is a fund established by his parents, Drs. Joe and Cinna Wohlmuth, to build awareness, eliminate stigma, increase knowledge, and empower students with intervention skills to make a positive impact related to mental health and the misuse of alcohol and other drugs.
