You don't often get email from cagudis at ucr.edu<mailto:cagudis at ucr.edu>. Learn why this is important<https://aka.ms/LearnAboutSenderIdentification>
Hi all,

Please see a weeklong set of events to add to your calendar! For those of you heading into Week 10 of the quarter, perhaps you can offer these as extra credit opportunities for students. All of the programs are community and student based efforts, in collaboration with A People's History of the I.E.<http://peopleshistoryie.org> and other organizations. Please circulate widely. Fliers attached.

--Tues., June 3, 12-3, outside Rivera Library: "Our Communities, Our Stories, Our Lives" Student Research symposium, under the arches of Rivera Library. Student posters, presentations, & interactive activities featuring regional histories of displacement, resistance, and mobilizing for queer/trans rights, among others.

--Thurs., June 5, 5pm, @ UCR Arts Culver Screening Room, 3834 Main Street. "To Rise Above Ruins: Archives, Industry, and the American Century<https://ucrarts.ucr.edu/events/to-rise-above-ruins/>," discussion of archives and artwork related to empire and environmental impacts of military-industrial development in the Inland Empire and Puerto Rico--two sites connected through the work of photographer Tamara Cedré. Free. Reservations recommended but not required. Generously co-sponsored by UCR's Center for Ideas & Society, History Dept., Anthropology Dept., & Society, Environment, & Health Equity.

--Thurs., June 5, 7pm @ Riverside Art Museum, 3425 Mission Inn Ave. Exhibition opening and reception for "To Rise Above Ruins" with music by DJ Slim Gravy, food by House of Empanadas. Free, no reservation needed. First Thursday Downtown Riverside Arts Walk

--Saturday, June 7, noon @ Riverside Main Library, 3900 Mission Inn Ave. "Queering the I.E.: Riverside's LGBTQ+ Past & Present," presentations, community story share. Riverside Public Library Community Room. Free, plenty of parking.

--Sunday, June 8, 3pm @ UCR Arts Culver Screening Room, 3834 Main Street, "Unearthing Black Histories Through Photography<https://ucrarts.ucr.edu/events/unearthing-black-histories/>: Valley Truck Farms (San Bernardino) & Bethesda African Cemetery Coalition (Maryland)"-- conversation about efforts to preserve Black community histories and sites in San Bernardino and Bethesda, Maryland. Explores ways photography can support community preservation in the face of industrial development, displacement, and environmental degradation.

Thank you!

Best,

Cathy
