Supported by the Mellon Foundation, CCL launched the Seminar in 2014 to
provide a training opportunity for emerging curatorial professionals.
Students receive the opportunity to observe, analyze, and engage in the
critical responsibilities of museums through a range of institutional
contexts. The two-week intensive combines exhibition tours, conversations
with leaders in the field, coursework with Columbia Business School
professors, and one-on-one mentorships with senior curators.

The 2026 CCL/Mellon Foundation Seminar will take place from *July 5-17,
2026* in-person in New York City.

A note on eligibility criteria: the program is open to PhD students in art
history, or a related field of study with significant coursework in art
history. Eligible candidates will have completed their oral examinations
before the program begins and will have, at minimum, determined the topic
of their dissertation research. *There are no direct costs or fees for
participation.* Housing and round-trip travel expenses to New York will be
provided by CCL. All students receive a stipend to offset other daily
expenses.

*The Center for Curatorial Leadership (CCL)* trains curators to become
visionary leaders of art museums. At a time when the demands of cultural
institutions and the public are rapidly evolving, CCL provides essential
tools to guide today’s museums and anticipate future challenges. The CCL
model encompasses mentorships with innovators and museum directors,
rigorous coursework in strategic management, and professional networks for
support and growth. With its graduates now at the helm of major art
institutions, CCL is helping to build the next generation of museum
leaders, ones who combine traditional curatorial connoisseurship and art
historical scholarship with administrative, managerial, and strategic
expertise.
