From academic-tech-bulletin at lists.ucr.edu Wed Feb 19 10:05:46 2025 From: academic-tech-bulletin at lists.ucr.edu (Academic Technology Notice) Date: Wed, 19 Feb 2025 10:05:46 -0800 Subject: [Academic Technology Notice] Spring 2025 Canvas Changes & Early Requests for Course Merges Message-ID: Dear Instructors, Message 1: Inactive vs Deleted Students in Canvas People Page We would like to inform you about an upcoming change in Canvas that will take effect starting Spring 2025 that streamlines the students who are currently marked as Inactive on the Canvas people page (Inactive students are students who have dropped, or withdrawn from a Canvas course). For context, students who dropped a course were designated as Inactive in Canvas rather than being fully removed from the People page. While this allowed for historical tracking, many faculty members have expressed concerns that Inactive students continue to clutter the People page, making course management more difficult. To improve usability and streamline course rosters, starting Spring 2025, students who drop a course will be fully removed from view in the People page. This change ensures that only actively enrolled students appear in your People page, simplifying navigation and reducing unnecessary clutter. This adjustment will not impact student records or enrollment history, which will continue to be available through official enrollment systems. ------------------------------ Message 2: Canvas Course Merge Requests Secondly, as we approach the Spring 2025 term, XCITE would like to encourage you to submit your requests for course merges in Canvas. For those unfamiliar, a course merge combines multiple Canvas courses into one umbrella course that remains visible in Canvas. We understand that course merges can be beneficial for both students, faculty, and Teaching Assistants, as this can streamline course offerings and improve efficiency. If you have any courses that you believe would be suitable for merging, please let us know by submitting this form . Our team will facilitate the Canvas course merge process, and let you know when it is complete. Thank you for your time and consideration of both of these important topics. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to xcite-help at ucr.edu. Thank you for your continued feedback, as it helps in helping us enhance your teaching experience in Canvas.
