Chicano Student Programs along with Cultural Events of UC Riverside presents
the <b><span style='font-weight:bold'>18th Annual Noche Cultural</span></b> on <i><span
style='font-style:italic'>Saturday, January 22, 2011.</span></i> The event is
an evening of variety entertainment for the entire family. Doors open at 6:15
pm with show to begin at 6:30 pm in the University Theatre. <br>
<br>
This year's line up includes a performance by<b><span style='font-weight:bold'>
Ixya with Conjunto Hueyapan. </span></b>Ixya sings in a variety of Mexican
music styles: huapangos, boleros, canciones rancheras, traditional songs in
indigenous languages such as Nahuatl and Purépecha, as well as sones in the
jarocho, huasteco, and mariachi traditions. She made her stage debut at age 12
at the Tuscon International Mariachi Conference with her idol Linda Ronstadt. A
musical presentation will be provided by <b><span style='font-weight:bold'>Mariachi
Reyna de <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">los Angeles</st1:place></st1:City>.
</span></b>In a musical genre largely dominated by men, Mariachi Reyna de <st1:City
w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">los Angeles</st1:place></st1:City> has been
breaking stereotypes and shaping new cultural traditions since 1994. Enriching
the mariachi forum as America's first all female mariachi ensemble, Mariachi
Reyna de Los Angeles brings sensitivity, beauty, warmth and an attractive
perspective to the realm of Mexico's musical heritage. Mariachi Reyna de <st1:City
w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">los Angeles</st1:place></st1:City> (or simply
known as Mariachi Reyna) is a 12-member all female mariachi group that has
earned a reputation in the music industry as pioneers. Under the direction of
mariachi maestro José Hernandez (of Mariachi Sol de México), Mariachi Reyna has
released three albums: Solo Tuyo (Yours Only), El Mejor Mariachi Feminino del
Mundo (The Best Female Mariachi in the World) and Compañeras, which was
nominated for both the Grammy and Latin Grammy awards last year.<br>

The evening also includes performances representing various regions of México
by <b><span style='font-weight:bold'>Ballet Folklórico de Moreno Valley High
School </span></b>and <b><span style='font-weight:bold'>Ballet Folklórico de
UCR</span></b>. Both dance groups include students from the local area
and perform in the community at various events.<b><span style='font-weight:
bold'> Bañuelos Charro Team </span></b>directed by Ramon Bañuelos will delight
the audience with Mexican rope tricks. <br>

Making their 18th appearance will be the local <i><span style='font-style:italic'>familia
</span></i><b><span style='font-weight:bold'>Los Romero</span></b> with their
own very special renditions of romantic ballads.<b><span style='font-weight:

Admission is $10 general / $8 students. Parking is $5 per car in <st1:place
