Hi All,

As we prepare to wrap up another outstanding year of
programming and student support, I wanted to share some recent regional
recognition for students and staff of the Golden ARCHES Peer Health Education
Program. Last month, we hosted students and staff from across the state
in the BACCHUS Network’s Area Two Regional Conference. As a
reminder, The BACCHUS Network supports nearly 1,000 peer health and wellness
education programs at over 900 campuses across the country. Area Two, the
southwest region of the network, includes affiliates in the states of Arizona,
California, Hawaii and Nevada.

UCR student and ANGLE Co-Director, Catherine Pham, in her
role as Area Two Student Advisory Committee member gave a luncheon keynote at
the conference. During this luncheon, UCR also received two awards.

Scott Clayton, a Co-Director of the Student Athlete Mentors
at UCR, was awarded the Outstanding Area Two Student Award. Scott has been
and active member in the Golden ARCHES program for the last two years, serving
as Co-Director this year. He has served on the APPLE Conference team for
the last two years, which helped athletics review and update their alcohol,
tobacco and other drug policies last year, and is reviewing and evaluating their
current drug education, testing and treatment program. He has taken an
active leadership role in several awareness campaigns and program initiatives,
and is currently taking a lead in the development of a men’s program to
address sexual assault and violence issues. Scott has also been one of
the four UCR nominees for the NCAA’s National Student-Athlete Development
Conference for the past two years. He is a junior member of the men’s
golf team, placed 3rd as an individual in the Big West Conference
Championships a couple of weeks ago, and does all of this while carrying a 4.0
GPA.

Doug Everhart, advisor to the Golden ARCHES program for 10
years, was awarded the inaugural Advisor of the Year Award at the conference.

Joseph Kim was the campus coordinator and contact for the
conference, and did a phenomenal job of logistical details and follow-through
in ensuring our visiting students and advisors got to see the best of UCR
facilities, food and service. Rave reviews for Joe’s job and the
UCR facilities/services were shared with me throughout the weekend.

Congratulations to all of our outstanding students and staff
who represent UCR so well!
