UCR will be joining colleges and universities across the nation to recognize this important day. Denim Day is</FONT></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en"> <FONT FACE="Arial">a national campaign to raise awareness and educate the public about rape and sexual assault. </FONT></SPAN></P>
<P DIR=LTR><SPAN LANG="en-us"></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en"><FONT FACE="Arial">The history of Denim Day dates back to 1998 when an Italian Court overturned a rape conviction citing that the rape survivor wore jeans and therefore must have assisted her attacker in removing her pants. The court’s decision sparked international outrage. Wearing jeans became an international symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault. On Denim Day, we unite against the sexual assault of girls, women, boys and men. We stand in support of survivors. We break the silence to end sexual violence.</FONT></SPAN></P>
