"College Student Death: Guidance for a Caring
Campus"</a></b></h2><br><br>
Wednesday, June 13, 2007<br>
1:00pm - 2:30pm ET<br><br>
It is estimated that 6,000 college students die annually in the United
States. Student affairs personnel are called to engage with family,
students, and the campus community compassionately and proactively in the
aftermath of college students’ deaths.<br><br>
This Webinar is designed to provide tools for participants to improve
institutional response to college student death. Based on the book
<i>College Student Death: Guidance for a Caring Campus,</i> it utilizes
the contributions of the more than thirty authors who provided their
crisis management and bereavement expertise as well as their own
experiences of witnessing college student death. The book is jointly
published by ACPA and the University Press of America (March 2007).
<br><br>
Topics include:
<ul>
<li>formulating institutional policy and preparedness
<li>meeting with grieving family and students
<li>initiating Critical Incident Response Training (CIRT) targeted for
the unique campus culture and student body that make up your
institution.
</ul><br>
This Webinar enhances institutional training but does not serve as a CIRT
replacement. The purpose is to explore the <i>human</i> responses we can
expect and provide, not the technological interventions that may
ameliorate campus protocol to college student death.<br><br>
