Spaces are filling up for the Southeast Asia Summer Institute: Genocide and Human Rights, June 21-23, 2009 at Northern Illinois University, DeKalb campus. The institute begins with dinner and a keynote speaker at 6 PM on Sunday, June 21 and finishes Tuesday, June 23 at 3 PM.

For the first 20 registrants, we will pay ALL EXPENSES except transportation to and from DeKalb.  We ask that you pay the $65 registration fee which will be returned to you in a stipend upon completion of the institute.  Other expenses covered include room and board (double occupancy), materials, and CPDUs for current K-12 Illinois educators.

All K-16 educators are welcome to attend - resource and curriculum materials will focus on the middle/high school/community college levels.

Highlights of the institute will include keynote speaker and institute presenter, Professor Nancy Lutz.  Professor Lutz who is an anthropology professor at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville has done extensive work in the first new sovereign state of the 21st century, East Timor.

Also highlighted at the institute will be a public showing with discussion of the new documentary film, "40 Years of Silence: An Indonesian Tragedy."  Directed by anthropologist Robert Lemelson and edited by two-time Academy Award winner Pietro Scalia, "40 Years of Silence: An Indonesian Tragedy" is a moving feature length documentary film about one of the most horrific chapters in Indonesia's history.
