Vietnam-Laos military joint venture set up

The Defence Ministries of Vietnam and Laos announced a joint venture, called the Phuluong (Truong Son) Drilling and Mine Explosion Service Co. Ltd, in Vientiane on June 2.

Partners include the Defence Industrial Materials Company of the Vietnam Defence Ministry, and the Industry Department of the Logistics General Department of the Laos Defence Ministry, each contributing 70 percent and 30 percent of capital, respectively, to the JV.

The JV will operate for 20 years in the fields of drilling and providing mine explosion services in addition to the destruction of outdated or low-quality explosive materials of civil projects.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director of the Vietnam Defence Industrial Material Company, Dr. Nguyen Duc Thuan, said the JV establishment was of great significance both politically and economically, marking a new step toward closer cooperation between the two defence ministries.

The JV will serve big projects on hydro-electricity, mining, and transport infrastructure development in Laos, he said.
