Just a reminder that after the TLC business meeting this week in Atlanta there is the Kahin Reception:

You are invited to help us celebrate
a new contribution to the field ~
SEAC announces the establishment of
the George McT. Kahin Prize
in Southeast Asian Studies.

All Southeast Asianists, friends and spouses are invited to a
Southeast Asia reception at AAS on Saturday evening April 5,
2008. The event, sponsored by SEAC with support from the
Cornell University Southeast Asia Program, is a gathering to
celebrate the launch of a new book prize for Southeast Asian
studies, named for George McT. Kahin. The award was initiated
in 2007 at the behest of the Cornell University Southeast Asia
program, friends, family and students of George Kahin, and the
Southeast Asia Council of the Association for Asian Studies to
honor the contributions of George McT. Kahin to the field of
Southeast Asian Studies.

The Kahin Prize is one of two book prizes awarded for
scholarship in the field of Southeast Asian Studies, along
with the Harry J. Benda Prize for “first books” in the field
of Southeast Asian Studies. The Kahin Prize aims to encourage
and recognize continuing original contributions to the field
in the form of second books and beyond.

Please join us in Atlanta to celebrate!
