Food for thought:

Total U.S. approx. 500,000 Laotian/Hmong Americans and 135,000 live in California alone. In fact roughly 40% of ALL Asian Americans live in California alone, but relative to the total U.S. population 300,000,000, we ALL Asians make up 4.7% of total U.S. population, and in California only 12.1% Asians in the entire state). (Census 2000)

Demograhic Overview:

- 13.5 million Asians in the United States (4.7% of total U.S. population)

- 12.1 million individuals reported Asian as their only race (4.2% of the population)

- 5 distinct groups with a population of over 1 million (80% of Asian population): Chinese, Asian Indians, Filipino, Vietnamese, Korean

- 6 other Asian groups account for about 15% of the Asian population: Japanese, Laotian, Pakistani, Cambodian, Hmong, Thai
