BUDDHIST STUDIES
We invite papers relevant to Buddhist Studies and the 2009 conference theme, STANDING AT THE CROSSROADS: 21ST CENTURY CHALLENGES IN ETHICS, RELIGION AND SOCIAL JUSTICE. We will hold two sessions: one section is open to papers dealing with any area within Buddhist Studies and the other will focus exclusively on Theravada Buddhism. All traditions of Theravada Buddhism are welcome, including its Western forms. Both sessions will reflect on responses to modernity, in particular intersections and divergences between the categories of ‘traditional’ and ‘modern’ Buddhism. Proposals for these sessions should be sent via e-mail to Buddhist Studies Co-Chairs Kenneth Lee: klee at csun.edu and Brooke Schedneck: brooke.schedneck at asu.edu. Proposals must be received by October 1, 2008, and all participants must send a participant form (available on the website) along with their proposal. All accepted participants on the program must be members of the AAR.
