Dear TLC,

I am not sure if this is the type of information the group
wants to hear, but we can talk about useful and non-useful
topics for the listserv at the business meeting. This has been
the first year of the TLC listserv. Originally I thought it
would be just for announcements of new books, conferences,
fellowships, etc. We certainly do that (although I encourage
more of you all to send news of your new publications,
articles and books). However, it has also evolved into an
occasional place to highlight interesting newspaper articles,
voice arguments about political issues, and offer research advice.

Below is news about a apartment for rent to scholars in Chiang
Mai. This sounds like a great place. This information will be
useful for some, but certainly not everyone. Please think
about issues like this and we will discuss it at the business
meeting.

"I don't know your policy of advertising sublets, but there's
a truly wonderful sublet available in Chiang Mai from the end
of March til the end of November - or anytime within. It's
held by Carol Stratton, author of the lovely book on Northern
Thai Buddha images, and her husband Bob. They've been coming
back here for the winter for several years and keep a place
all year round.

It's a gracious corner studio on the 14th floor of a
well-maintained, safe building on Huay Kaew Road near Chiang
Mai U, with a fantastic view of Doi Suthep. It comes furnished
with a refrigerator, linens, dishes, etc. for only 5,500 baht/
month. Electricity is extra, but not too much if one uses the
fan that is provided. (Air con is also available). There's a
great cafe just down the block as well as a sushi bar, green
market, 7-Eleven- EVERYTHING one could need within 3 minutes'
walk. Too good too be true."

Best,
justin
