Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Mainland Southeast Asian Studies,
Australian National University

The Centre for Asian Societies and Histories in the Faculty of
Asian Studies seeks to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in
the field of mainland Southeast Asia. The priority area will
be Thailand, followed by Vietnam. A candidate with expertise
in the field of security studies will be preferred.
Complementary expertise in modern history, political and
development studies and the environment will also be well
regarded.

Applicants will possess a PhD relevant to our teaching and
research missions. Applicants will be able to demonstrate a
promising research and publications record in mainland
Southeast Asian studies and will be able to assist in the
promotion of this field at the University.

Applicants will have an excellent command of one or more
mainland Southeast Asian languages, and a fluent, correct
command of English.

Applicants will be able to design and teach courses on
pan-mainland Southeast Asia as well as courses focussing on
preferred areas and themes of expertise.

Applicants will demonstrate the ability and willingness to
supervise students who work on various parts of mainland
Southeast Asia at Honours and Postgraduate levels.  Applicants
will also demonstrate collegiality and the willingness to take
up necessary administrative tasks.

Commencement is negotiable but the successful applicant will
preferably take up duties in February 2008.

Conversion to a continuing (permanent) appointment may be
available upon application, after 12 months.

Southeast Asian and Islamic Studies, Sociology, Michigan State
University

The Department of Sociology and the Asian Studies Program at
Michigan State University, East Lansing, seek applications for
a tenure-track, Assistant Professor faculty position,
specializing in Southeast Asia and Islamic cultural studies
and social movements. We seek a sociologist for this academic
year appointment with tenure home in Sociology and affiliate
status with Asian Studies. Candidates must have research and
teaching interests in Asian Studies and expertise to enhance
departmental strengths including the department theme, Global
Transformations, or focus areas of urban, race and migration,
family and gender, health and well-being, and/or
food-environment-agriculture-science and technology (see

Successful candidates will be expected to establish a strong,
externally recognized and supported program of scholarship; to

their scholarship. The PhD is required for appointment as an

Visiting Professor, Buddhism and Contemporary Society,
University of British Columbia

The University of British Columbia invites applications for
the Tung Lin Kok Yuen Canada Foundation Visiting Professorship
in Buddhism and Contemporary Society. The Visiting Professor
will teach an undergraduate class on Introduction to Buddhism
at the Department of Asian Studies and will lead a graduate
seminar on Buddhism and Contemporary Society in the Institute
of Asian Research. The successful candidate will teach two
courses during Term 2 (January – April 2008), renewable at the
sole discretion of the University. Applicants for this
Visiting Professorship must have a Ph.D. and demonstrated
excellence in teaching and research on Buddhism and its

The Department of History at the University of California at
San Diego, in conjunction with the Institute for
International, Comparative, and Areas Studies at the
University of California, San Diego, seeks applications for a
tenure-track/tenured position in the history of the United
States and the world. The department seeks to attract a broad
and diverse pool of applicants to teach and conduct research
in the field of United States' relations with the wider world.
Specific interests might include the history of imperialism,
colonialism and anti-colonialism, foreign policy and
diplomacy, human rights and international institutions, Cold
War history, globalization, migration, or transnational social
movements. Multilingual specialists in U.S. history, area
studies, and allied fields are particularly encouraged to apply.

department and in the International Studies Program. The

Visiting Research Fellowships, National University of Singapore

Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore is
inviting applications for 3-Months Visiting (Senior) Research
Fellowships and Visiting (Senior) Research Fellowships under
the ARI Sabbatical Leave Scheme for commencement on 2 January
2008, 1 April 2008 and 1 July 2008. The positions are intended
for outstanding active researchers on Asian topics, with a
balance anticipated between senior and junior, the Asian
region and the world. At least one published outcome is
expected, and applicants who do not normally publish in
English will be encouraged and assisted to do so.
Interdisciplinary interests are encouraged. “Asia” as a
research field is defined loosely in terms of the region in

AsiaMedia http://asiamedia.ucla.edu/ is looking for a dynamic
