POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT:  Museum Director

The Cambodian American Heritage Museum and Killing Fields
Memorial seeks a Museum Director. The museum and memorial were
established in 2004 by the Cambodian Association of Illinois
and are located adjacent to their offices in Chicago.  

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Director is responsible for all phases of museum
operations, which include a 1400 sq. ft. gallery, a memorial
area, a library/archive room, and storage.  Responsibilities
include budgeting and administration, fundraising for museum
operations and exhibits, planning and executing public
programs, overseeing development of new exhibits, overseeing
museum education curriculum development, producing publicity
materials, obtaining, managing and cataloguing collections
including artifacts, library books, an archive, and oral
histories , and acting as a liaison to the wider
cultural/museum community in the Chicago area.  The Museum
Director will also report to the Executive Director of the
Cambodian Association of Illinois as well as a volunteer
museum advisory committee.

Required qualifications:
	- A Bachelor’s or advanced degree, preferably in museum
studies, anthropology, 			   	   history, folklore, Asian
studies, education, arts admin., or other relevant field
	- At least 2 yrs. of museum employment or museum related
experience
	- Strong written and verbal English skills
	- Demonstrated strong fundraising abilities
	- Familiarity with budgeting and program management
	- Ability to work in a multi-cultural setting

The following qualifications are strongly preferred:
	- Management experience with programs, operations and budgets    
	- A team player with demonstrated ability to work with a
variety of groups 
- Knowledge of Cambodian culture and history 
- Familiarity with larger issues of Human Rights, and ability
to speak about them with ease   
- Community outreach: can work effectively with funders and
donors, media, community
  members, groups/organizations, immigrant/ethnic associations
and cultural centers
	- Curatorial experience; including development of exhibits/or
collections, 				  management, such as registration and
cataloguing methods and archival systems
- Education experience: the ability to give tours, to develop
curriculum and to work with 
  educators and school groups 
	- Computer skills and knowledge of PastPerfect and website
design/content 
	- Scholarly ability: to obtain relevant artifacts and library
materials 	
	
This is a full-time position, and may require some weekend and
evening work.  Salary commensurate with experience includes
medical/dental benefits.
